We are kicking off a series all about email lists and email marketing and to help you get to understand all this stuff that you’re supposed to understand.
Because I don’t know about you, but when I first was getting into business, people would tell me… All the time… All the gurus would say, “You need to get an email list going. You need to get your email marketing going.”
And I’m like, “What are you talking about? I have an email account. Does that count?”
But, it doesn’t. So, there is a lot of information to learn. But it’s one of those things once you learn it, you’re like, “Oh, okay. I get it now. It makes sense. So, now I just have to continue forward.”
So, today we’re just gonna cover some basics about what is an email list and then why you need one for your business. The whole reason why you need to have this email list and continue growing this email list.
And this works if you have an online business or you have a brick and mortar store. And email list can be huge for your business.
Now obviously, if you have an online business, that’s probably even more. But if you have a brick and mortar store, this could be amazing for your business too. And instead of just trying to depend upon foot traffic.

What Is an Email List?
It’s really easy to define. It’s just a list of people who have said that they want to hear from you. And, they give you their email address.
They say, “This is my special private email address. Here you go. I want to hear from you. I want to know all about the things that you are willing to tell me about.”
Whether that be sales, specials, just information, content marketing…
Why Do You Need an Email List for Your Business?
Every other space that you have out there is rented, except possibly your website. (But that’s another podcast that we’re gonna get into in a few weeks.) But, if you use social media for your marketing to try and get people into your store, or to get people to buy stuff from you, it’s all rented space. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, all of them.
Algorithms change all the time. I’m sure you’ve heard of the algorithms right? That’s the super secret computer software formula. It chooses to see who gets to see what in their newsfeed or in their Instagram feed…

Let’s say to get people on your email list, you have two to three different freebies that you’re trying to give away. But to set up to the three lists, it’s a bit tricky.
